Kilimanjaro International Airport and to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2650m)
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and feel the excitement as your adventure begins. You’ll embark on a 2 to 3-hour drive to Lemosho Gate, where the registration process takes place. Here, you’ll obtain your entrance permit, enjoy a delicious lunch, and meet your dedicated trekking team, including guides, porters, and cooks. The journey officially begins as you hike through a lush, vibrant rainforest. Over the next 2 to 3 hours, you’ll cover 7 km to reach Mti Mkubwa Camp. Along the way, admire the brilliant blooms of Impatiens Kilimanjaro and keep an eye out for playful black-and-white Colobus monkeys and other fascinating forest wildlife. The day ends with the peaceful ambiance of your first camp, surrounded by nature’s beauty.

Mti Mkubwa Camp (2650m) to Shira 2 Camp
This day promises to be one of the most scenic and longest on the trek. You’ll start with a 3 to 4-hour hike covering approximately 7 kilometers to Shira I Camp, where you’ll pause for lunch and a brief rest. From there, the adventure continues with a 4 to 5-hour walk across 9 kilometers, traversing the stunning Shira Plateau—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—through the captivating moorland zone, before reaching Shira II Camp, located beneath a dramatic lava flow.

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp 3940m
You’ll trek across the Alpine Desert, covering about 9 kilometers in 6 to 8 hours. The day starts with a steep climb over gentle rocky slopes, followed by a gradual ascent to the Lava Tower at 4,600 meters—an impressive volcanic formation rising 150 meters high. Lunch is taken around midday. Due to the high altitude, mild headaches are common for some hikers. After reaching the Lava Tower, you’ll descend for roughly two hours along a dusty, rocky trail to Barranco Camp for your overnight rest

Barranco Camp 3940m to Barafu Camp 4673m
After breakfast, you'll leave Barranco and climb the steep Barranco Wall ridge toward the Karanga Valley campsite. Lunch is served at Karanga, followed by a brief acclimatization rest before proceeding to Barafu Hut. This completes the South Circuit, providing sweeping summit views from multiple perspectives. At Barafu, you'll set up camp, unwind, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit ascent. From here, both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks are in sight. The trek spans approximately 9 kilometers over 8 to 10 hours across alpine desert terrain.

Barafu Camp (4673m) to Uhuru Summit (5895m) to Mweka Camp (3100m)
You’ll wake up around 11:00 pm to enjoy some tea and snacks, then dress warmly for the midnight start of your Kilimanjaro Uhuru summit attempt. The climb begins with a steep, rocky path lasting 2–3 hours, followed by a tough zigzag trail leading to the crater rim and Stella Point (5,756m), which you’ll reach by about 6:00 am. Here, you’ll join climbers from Marangu and Rongai routes and continue together toward Uhuru Peak. The final hour takes you to the summit (5,895m), where you might catch the sunrise at Stella Point, along the way, or at the top. After 10–15 minutes for photos and soaking in the view, you’ll descend to Barafu Camp for brunch and rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. The ascent covers 5 km and takes 7–8 hours, while the descent is 12 km and takes 4–6 hours to reach Mweka Camp at 3,100m.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
After breakfast, you'll start your final descent to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters), where you’ll be awarded your summit certificates. The trail at lower elevations may be muddy and wet, so using gaiters and trekking poles is recommended. Light clothing such as shorts and T-shirts will usually suffice, but keep your rain gear and warm layers handy. Upon reaching the gate, our vehicle will be ready to drive you back to your mid-range hotel in Moshi for a refreshing hot shower and a cold beer. The 10km descent through the vibrant rainforest takes around 3 to 4 hours.
