This will be one of your most scenic and longest hiking days. The first stretch involves a 3 to 4-hour trek to Shira I Camp, covering approximately 7 kilometers, followed by a lunch break and some time to rest. Afterward, you\'ll continue for another 4 to 5 hours, hiking an additional 9 kilometers. During this part of the journey, you\'ll traverse the heart of the Shira Plateau—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—through the stunning moorland zone, before reaching your overnight Shira II camp set at the base of an impressive lava flow.

You will trek through the Alpine Desert for approximately 9 kilometers, taking about 6 to 8 hours. The journey begins with a climb over steep hills and a few scattered rocks, followed by a gradual ascent toward the Lava Tower, which stands at 4,600 meters—a 150-meter-high volcanic plug located just outside the main mountain. Around midday, you’ll pause for lunch. At this altitude, some hikers may begin to experience a mild headache due to the elevation. After reaching the Lava Tower, you’ll descend for roughly two hours along a dusty, rocky trail before arriving at Barranco Camp for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, you will leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. You will have lunch at Karanga and acclimatize for a few minutes before continuing up to the Barafu Hut. At this point, you have completed the South Circuit, which offers views of the summit from many different angles. Here you can make camp, rest, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the summit day. The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be seen from this position. You will cover the distances of 9 kilometers about 8-10 hours and you will be in the alpine desert.

Wake up at 11:00 PM for tea and snacks, then start the midnight summit push with a steep 2–3 hour climb. Continue on a zigzag trail to Stella Point (5,756 m) around 6:00 AM, meeting climbers from routes like Marangu and Rongai. From there, hike an hour to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) and enjoy a stunning sunrise. After 10–15 minutes at the summit, descend to Barafu Camp for rest and brunch, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100 m). Distance: 5 km up, 12 km down; 7–8 hrs ascent, 4–6 hrs descent.

After breakfast, you will begin your final descent to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you will receive your summit certificates. The trail at lower elevations can be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles are recommended. Light clothing such as shorts and T-shirts should be sufficient, but keep your rain gear and warmer layers accessible. Upon reaching Mweka Gate, our vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to your budget hotel in Moshi, where you can enjoy a hot shower and a well-deserved beer. The descent covers a distance of 10 kilometers and takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, passing through lush rainforest.
