7 Days Group Mid-Range Kilimanjaro Climb via Lemosho Route in Tanzania from Zanzibar (2026 - 2027)

Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Depart Moshi after breakfast and drive approximately three hours to Lemosho Gate for registration. After lunch, start trekking through the lush rainforest filled with unique flora and fauna, leading you to your first campsite—Mti Mkubwa Camp.

Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira I Camp

Elevation (ft): 9,500ft to 11,500ft

Distance: 8 km

Hiking Time: 5-6 hours

Habitat: Moorland

Leave the forest and enter the open moorland, passing through tall grasses and heather. Enjoy views of volcanic rock formations as you gradually climb to Shira Ridge before descending into Shira 1 Camp with panoramic views of Kibo Peak.

Shira I Camp to Shira II Camp

Elevation (ft): 11,500ft to 13,800ft

Distance: 14 km

Hiking Time: 5-7 hours

Habitat: Moorland

Explore the vast Shira Plateau at a relaxed pace while heading eastward toward Kibo Peak. The trail leads through meadows and streams before arriving at Shira II Camp—a serene site that offers one of the most striking views on the mountain.

Shira II Camp to Lava Tower Camp to Barranco Camp

Elevation (ft): 13,800ft to 13,000ft

Distance: 7 km

Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

Habitat: Semi Desert

Ascend gradually toward Lava Tower, known as “Shark’s Tooth,” before descending to Barranco Camp. This day provides vital acclimatization as you climb high and sleep low. The view of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall is awe-inspiring.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation (ft): 13,000ft to 15,000ft

Distance: 9 km

Hiking Time: 8-10 hours

Habitat: Alpine Desert

Climb the impressive Barranco Wall, then trek through alpine terrain to reach Karanga Camp for lunch. Continue upward to Barafu Camp, the final base before your summit attempt. Enjoy dinner early and prepare for the night climb ahead.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Summit to Mweka Camp

Elevation (ft): 15,300ft to 19,345ft (and down to 10,000ft)

Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent

Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent

Habitat: Arctic

Begin your summit push at around 2 a.m., ascending through scree and glaciers to reach Stella Point. From there, continue to Uhuru Peak—the Roof of Africa! After celebrating your achievement, descend to Barafu for lunch and continue down to Mweka Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

Elevation (ft): 10,000ft to 5,400ft

Distance: 10 km

Hiking Time: 3-4 hours

Habitat: Rain Forest

Descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Afterward, transfer back to your Moshi hotel for relaxation, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight back to Zanzibar or onward destination.
