Begin with breakfast at a local café before exploring Moshi town center. Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Drive from Moshi to Machame Gate (50 minutes). Begin the trek through rainforest on a winding trail, muddy and slippery in sections. Use trekking poles and gaiters for comfort. Ascend gradually along the ridge and valleys until reaching Machame Camp. Enjoy full board meals and rest, taking in the lush mountain scenery and preparing for the next day.

Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp
Leave the rainforest and continue ascending along steep ridges and across rocky valleys. The trail turns west into a river gorge, then you reach Shira Cave Camp. Enjoy panoramic views of the moorland habitat during the 9 km hike over 4-6 hours. Relax and enjoy full board meals at the Shira Cave Camp while preparing for tomorrow’s longer climb.

Hike through gentle ascents and semi-desert landscapes toward Lava Tower (4,600 m). After lunch at the tower, descend into the Barranco Valley (3,950 m). Walk approximately 15 km in 5-7 hours. Enjoy views of the Great Barranco Wall and surrounding scenery. Rest, enjoy full board meals, and overnight at Barranco Camp.
