Machame Camp to Shira Cave Camp
Ascend through the rainforest and enter the moorland zone, walking 9 km in 4–6 hours to Shira Camp. The trail passes rocky ridges and valley sections, offering spectacular views of Kilimanjaro. Cross Shira Plateau, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and reach the camp at the base of a massive lava flow. Rest, enjoy full board meals, and prepare for the next stage.

Shira Cave Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Trek 15 km over 5–7 hours, ascending gently toward Lava Tower at 4,600 m, then descend into the Barranco Valley at 3,950 m. This semi-desert terrain provides panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s southwest slopes. Pause for lunch near Lava Tower before descending. Barranco Camp offers full board meals and comfortable overnight accommodation.

After an early morning breakfast, we will hurry to Ngorongoro Crater, as it is the best time to spot animals. On this day, we will enjoy a game drive around the crater and stop for a picnic lunch at a small lake within the park. Within the amazing crater you can expect to view the playful zebra, lumbering hippo, swift wildebeest and cackling hyenas. In addition, there are flocks of graceful flamingos along the Soda Lake, while hungry hawks and vultures circle the sky in search their next meal of discarded carcass. Beautiful storks, ibis, and cranes are popular water birds in the crater, a sight not to miss. After a lovely afternoon of animal sightings, we will finally start our journey back to Arusha. Then transfer back directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
