Your summit push begins in the early hours of the morning—between midnight and 2 a.m.—as you tackle a steep path of loose scree or snow leading to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim. From there, the journey continues to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, where stunning views await. Don’t forget to take a photo at the summit to mark your accomplishment. The descent begins soon after, with a stop at Kibo for lunch and a brief rest, followed by the trek down to Horombo Camp. This stretch starts in total darkness, so headlamps or flashlights are essential. Temperatures will be extremely cold until you begin descending, so dress in all your warm layers. This is the most challenging part of the entire climb, featuring many switchbacks. Maintaining a slow, steady pace—pole pole—and a strong mindset will be key to reaching the summit.

After breakfast, we begin our descent through the moorland, making our way toward Mandara Huts. From there, we continue down a scenic trail through lush rainforest to the Marangu Gate of Kilimanjaro National Park. The lower sections of the trail can be wet and muddy, so using gaiters and trekking poles is advised. While light clothing like shorts and T-shirts is suitable, keep your rain gear and warm layers handy. At the Marangu Gate, a vehicle will be ready to drive you back to your hotel in Moshi. Don’t forget to tip your guides and porters—it’s a well-earned celebration of your journey!
