Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), our driver will be waiting to transfer you to Kilimanjaro White House Hotel in Moshi, a cozy and budget-friendly hotel in Moshi. This evening, your guide will provide a detailed briefing about the trek, check your gear, and answer any last-minute questions. Get a good night’s rest we start our adventure early tomorrow!

Moshi to Marangu Gate (1,800m) to Mandara Huts (2,743m)

After an early breakfast at the hotel, we drive to Marangu Gate. After registration, we begin our hike through the lush rainforest zone, home to blue monkeys and exotic birds. A picnic lunch at Kisambioni fuels us for the final stretch to Mandara Huts, where we’ll sleep. If you have the energy, an optional walk to Maundi Crater offers stunning views of Taveta and Mawenzi Peak.

Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts (3,720m)

We wake up early to begin our ascent to Horombo Huts, leaving the rainforest behind and entering the moorland zone, where giant lobelias and groundsels dominate the landscape. We’ll take a lunch break at Kambi ya Taanu, enjoying the first clear views of Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks. By afternoon, we arrive at Horombo Huts, a busier campsite where climbers both ascending and descending rest for the night.

Acclimatization Day – Horombo Huts

Acclimatization is key to a successful summit, so today, we take a short but important hike to Mawenzi Huts. The views of Kibo Peak from here are spectacular! After a relaxing lunch at Horombo Huts, we’ll spend the afternoon resting and preparing for the higher altitudes ahead.

Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts (4,750m)

After an early breakfast, we continue our trek into the alpine desert zone, where vegetation becomes sparse. We’ll cross Maua River, stop for lunch near Middle Red Hill, and continue along the Kilimanjaro Saddle, a vast, dry stretch between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. By afternoon, we reach Kibo Huts, our last stop before the summit. The air is thin, so we rest early tonight.
Summit Day – Kibo Huts to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) & Down to Horombo Huts

• Hiking Time: 11-13 hours
We wake at midnight for the final push to Uhuru Peak, hiking under the stars through loose scree. The climb is tough, but we take slow, steady steps, reaching Gillman’s Point (5,681m) in about five hours. From here, it’s another two-hour trek to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the highest point in Africa! After soaking in the breathtaking sunrise and taking celebratory photos, we begin our descent to Kibo Huts for a short break before continuing to Horombo Huts for a much-needed rest.

After breakfast, we trek back down through the lush rainforest zone to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificates. Before returning to Moshi, we’ll stop to enjoy a cold drink and perhaps pick up a souvenir. Back in Moshi, relax at Kilimanjaro White House Hotel with a hot shower and a comfortable bed.
