The plateau is open and exposed, so nighttime temperatures can be very cold, often dropping below freezing.

In the afternoon, the trail descends along the Northern Circuit to Moir Camp at 4,200 meters. Around 11:30 PM, you'll be gently woken with hot tea and biscuits to begin the challenging night climb up Kibo's slopes. Your first stop will be a short break at Hans Meyer Cave. From there, the trail becomes steeper as you ascend toward Gilman’s Point (5,681 meters), usually reached about 5–6 hours after leaving School Huts. Enjoy the incredible pre-dawn views and glimpses of Mawenzi Peak, but remember—Uhuru Peak is still two hours away, so save your energy for the final stretch. As you follow the crater rim westward, the trail flattens, leading you to the summit just as the sun rises. Take in the stunning views and capture a few memorable photos before starting your descent. You'll head down past Stella Point (5,739 meters) and continue through loose scree to Barafu Camp (4,680 meters) for a short rest, then move on to Millennium Camp (3,950 meters) for your last night on the mountain. This is the most demanding day of the trek—expect 14–16 hours on your feet—so pacing, hydration, and stamina are key.
