Arusha to Moshi
From Arusha, you will be transfered to Moshi town, widely recognized as the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro. In the evening, meet your guide to go over your equipment and prepare for the trek starting the next day.

The Northern Circuit Route begins at Lemosho Gate, located at 2,100 meters. After completing registration with Kilimanjaro National Park authorities, you'll be driven further up to the trailhead. There, you'll have lunch before starting a short hike to Mti Mkubwa Camp, which sits at 2,820 meters. As you walk through the lush rainforest, you may spot impressive wildlife like elephants or buffalo crossing the trail. Dinner will be served upon reaching the camp.

On day two, you'll start with a one-hour hike through the last section of the rainforest trail, gradually entering the low alpine moorland zone on your way to the Shira Plateau. This is a relatively short and easy trek that ends at Shira Camp 1, located at an altitude of 3,610 meters.

On day three, the journey continues across the Shira Plateau from Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2, where lunch is served. While most trekkers usually camp overnight at Shira Camp, the 8-day route extends further east, taking you through the scenic 'Garden of the Senecios' and into the high alpine desert. From there, the trail merges with the northern circuit, descending to Moir Camp at an elevation of 4,200 meters.
Moir Camp (4,200 meters) to Buffalo Camp (4,020 meters)

Trekking time: 5-7 hours

On the fourth day, you’ll tackle a moderately steep climb out of Moir Valley. A brief detour offers the chance to summit Little Lent Hill at 4,375 meters before returning to the main Northern Circuit route. The trail then undulates around the northern slopes of Kibo, gradually leading to Buffalo Camp at 4,020 meters. Throughout the journey, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the plains stretching toward the Kenya-Tanzania border. Expect to reach Buffalo Camp shortly after midday, in time for lunch and some well-earned rest.

On day five, the trek starts with a climb up Buffalo Ridge, then descends to Buffalo Camp for lunch. From there, the Northern Circuit Route continues east along Kilimanjaro’s northern slopes toward Rongai Third Cave at an altitude of 3,800 meters. This day’s hike is shorter than the previous, and by this point, you should be well acclimatized. You’re expected to arrive at Third Cave by mid-afternoon.

Rongai Third Cave Camp (3,800 meters) to School Huts (4,800 meters)

On day six, you'll make a steady ascent across the Saddle—the vast expanse between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks—heading southwest toward School Huts at 4,800 meters. Upon arrival, you'll have an early dinner and rest in preparation for the summit attempt, which begins just before midnight. Make sure all your gear is ready before you sleep, including warm clothing, insulated water bottles, snacks, a headlamp, and your camera.

Trekking time: 6-8 hours ascent and then 4–6-hour descent

You'll be woken around 11:30 PM with hot tea and biscuits to begin your challenging night ascent of Kibo’s slopes. Your first rest stop is at Hans Meyer Cave. As you climb higher, the trail steepens on the way to Gilman’s Point (5,681 meters), reached after 5 to 6 hours from School Huts. Pause to take in the first light of dawn and the stunning views of Mawenzi Peak. From there, it's about two more hours to Uhuru Peak. The path flattens along the crater rim, leading you to the summit around sunrise. Time at the top is brief, so be sure to capture the incredible views and glaciers with photos. You’ll then return along the rim to Stella Point (5,739 meters), and descend the rocky Kibo slopes toward Barafu Camp (4,680 meters). After a short rest, the journey continues down to Millennium Camp (3,950 meters) for your final overnight. Expect a demanding trek of 14 to 16 hours on this day—pace yourself, stay hydrated, and conserve energy.

On the final day, you’ll enjoy a short descent through the rich montane rainforest, trekking from Millennium Camp at 3,950 meters to Mweka Gate at 1,640 meters. At the gate, you'll check out with park authorities and receive your official certificate—green for reaching Gilman's Point or gold for summiting Uhuru Peak. From there, a driver from Africa Natural Tours & Safaris will take you back to Moshi Town.
