Take a brief respite there to relish the sunrise over Mawenzi peak. Those still feeling energized can gradually hike on a two-hour round trip along the crater rim to the main peak at 5,895 meters—the highest point in Africa. Following a brief moment to acknowledge your achievement, descend to Barafu, pausing at Barafu Camp for refreshments. Continue the descent, reaching Mweka Camp at a surprisingly brisk pace.
