Nairobi to Moshi
You will be picked up from Nairobi and transferred to your budget hotel in Moshi town. There, you’ll meet your guide for a detailed trek briefing and a gear check to ensure you have all the required mountain equipment. Any missing items can be rented on this day.

Moshi to Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2650m)
Following breakfast, you will embark on a drive lasting approximately 2 to 3 hours to Lemosho Gate, where you will finalize your registration, acquire the entrance permit, and partake in lunch. Subsequently, you will be introduced to your complete team—guides, cooks, and porters. The trek commences through the verdant rainforest, taking around 2 to 3 hours to arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp, covering a distance of 7 km. Along the path, you may observe vibrant flora such as the Impatiens Kilimanjaro and, with some fortune, encounter black and white Colobus monkeys along with other forest fauna.

Mti Mkubwa Camp (2650m) to Shira 2 Camp
This will be one of the most scenic and extended days of hiking. You'll begin with a 3 to 4-hour walk covering about 7 kilometers to reach Shira I Camp, where you’ll stop for lunch and a short rest. The journey continues with another 4 to 5-hour trek over 9 kilometers, crossing the beautiful Shira Plateau—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—through the breathtaking moorland zone, before arriving at Shira II Camp, nestled at the foot of a striking lava flow.

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp (3940m)
You’ll continue your trek through the Alpine Desert, covering 9 kilometers over approximately 6 to 8 hours. The day begins with a steep ascent over gentle rocky terrain, followed by a gradual uphill climb leading to the Lava Tower at 4,600 meters—a striking volcanic plug standing 150 meters tall, located just off the mountain. You’ll break for lunch around midday. At this altitude, it’s common for some hikers to experience mild headaches. After the Lava Tower, the trail descends for about two hours through a dusty, rocky path to reach Barranco Camp for an overnight stay.

Barranco Camp (3940m) to Barafu Camp (4673m)
Following breakfast, you will leave Barranco and climb the steep incline of the Barranco Wall, heading towards the Karanga Valley campsite. Lunch will be provided at Karanga, after which there will be a brief acclimatization period before proceeding to Barafu Hut. This signifies the end of the South Circuit, which presents sweeping views of the summit from multiple perspectives. At Barafu, you will establish your camp, unwind, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the ascent to the summit. From this location, both the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks can be seen. The journey spans approximately 9 kilometers and takes between 8 to 10 hours across alpine desert terrain.

Barafu Camp (4673m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) to Mweka Camp (3100m)
You’ll wake up around 11:00 pm, enjoy some tea and snacks, and dress warmly for the Kilimanjaro Uhuru summit attempt. The trek begins at midnight with a steep rocky path for about 2–3 hours, followed by a challenging zigzag trail leading to the crater rim and Stella Point (5,756m), you'll meet climbers from other routes like Marangu and Rongai and continue together toward Uhuru Peak. The final stretch takes about an hour, and you may witness the sunrise at Stella Point, along the way, or at the summit itself (Uhuru Peak, 5,895m). After spending 10–15 minutes at the top for photos and enjoying the view, you'll descend back to Barafu Camp for brunch and rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp. The total distance is 5 km up and 12 km down, with hiking times of 7–8 hours for the ascent and 4–6 hours for the descent to Mweka Camp (3,100m).

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi
After breakfast, you'll begin your final descent to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters), where you'll receive your summit certificates. The trail can be muddy and wet at lower altitudes, so gaiters and trekking poles are useful. Light clothing like shorts and T-shirts should be sufficient, but keep your rain gear and warm layers accessible. Once you arrive at the gate, our vehicle will be waiting to take you back to your budget hotel in Moshi, where you can enjoy a hot shower and a cold beer. The 10km descent takes about 3–4 hours through the lush rainforest.
