1 Day Hike Marangu Route on Kilimanjaro from Arusha in Tanzania (2026 - 2027)

Arusha to Marangu Gate (1,800m/5,905ft) to Mandara Huts (2,743m/9,000ft) then back to Arusha

After an early breakfast at your hotel in Arusha, you'll set off around 6:00 am for a scenic 3.5-hour drive to Moshi and then to the Marangu Gate. Once you've completed the registration at the gate, your Kilimanjaro day hike begins. You'll trek along a narrow trail through the lush rainforest, making your way toward Mandara Huts, where you'll likely meet climbers returning from the summit. At Mandara Huts, you'll pause for lunch and have the option to take a short hike to the Maundi Crater. On clear days, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Taveta to the east and Mawenzi Peak to the northwest. After capturing photos at the crater, you’ll descend back to Marangu Gate, where a vehicle will be ready to take you back to Arusha.
